Georgia Clayden: AFC Tricolours star signs with GC Suns AFLW

Avid sporting star and beloved Ainslie Tricolours player, Georgia Clayden is making her next move into professional women’s football signing with the Gold Coast Suns ahead of the June 29 draft.

At only 27 years old, she has played sport most of her life, only starting in AFL three years ago, with Ainslie Football Club and making it up to first-grade level.

Georgia says her time with the Tricolours has been memorable and extremely encouraging over the three-year journey.

“I’m really going to miss the community AFC offers, I have made some incredible friends and the support they have all shown me this past week has been extraordinary,” she said.

While the leap is one Georgia finds vast in comparison to playing for her local Canberra club, she is excited to take the challenge head on.

“This next chapter involves a big but exciting move to some warmer weather, where I know it will be hard work but I’m so excited and ready for it! And I can’t wait to get out there and do Ainslie proud.”

Readying herself to move on from her profession as a physiotherapist in the Capital, she holds dear to the lasting memory of the moment she spilled the news to her team and club members.

“The incredible happiness, excitement and support I felt radiated off others in the room and that moment was indescribable,” she said.

Looking forward, Georgia says her biggest focus is to go hard in preseason training to earn that starting spot come next season January 2023 and is certain her old teammates from AFC will venture up to watch her on the field.
